New website for the European Parliament

September 28, 2005.

*** The European Parliament has just launched a new website under the slogan "457 million citizens @ one address". Available in 20 languages, this new site is a more dynamic and attractive information tool than its predecessor. It has been designed to facilitate navigation and access to information. Site content, geared mainly to the wider public, also includes more in-depth material for European affairs experts such as journalists, lobbyists and researchers.
Five main sections bring together everything that you need to know about the European Parliament's activities and its members:
° News - this section enables readers to see at a glance what the latest news at the European Parliament is by way of text, illustration and sound.
° Parliament - this section sets out the way in which the Parliament is organised and what its political role and powers are. It also explains how to submit petitions, write to the Parliament, visit the Parliament or contact the closest information office.
° Your MEPs - this section provides information on MEPs backgrounds, their mandates, the work they have done (reports, resolutions, speeches) and their assistants. Readers can access their contact details as well as information on the composition of the political groups and parliamentary committees to which they belong.
° Activities - this section contains the texts adopted during the plenary sessions, by date of adoption and subject. Additionally, there is a database with summaries of legislative proposals which enables readers to follow the adoption process step-by-step.
° EP Live - this section enables readers to follow plenary sessions, certain parliamentary committees and press conferences live through webstreaming.
