*** If you are interested in these questions and feel you can contribute, this is your chance to participate in the MY EUROPE creative writing competition.
We are looking for a piece of creative writing (essay, short story or poem) which will present an original approach to how Europe, in all its complexity and diversity, is seen and perceived by young Ukrainians.
The winners will be invited to participate in creative writing workshops conducted by famous European and Ukrainian writers as part of the Writing Europe conference in Kyiv in June 2005.
Judging panel will include Liliana Biglou, Director British Council Ukraine; Zia Sardar, British writer, critic and journalist; Andriy Kurkov, Ukrainian writer; and Oleksandr Kyrylenko, Regional Manager of the British Council in Donetsk.
RULES
1. The competition is open to any pupil (10th or 11th grade) or student living or studying in Ukraine
2. Your entry should be written in English, Ukrainian or Russian.
3. While submitting your entry, you should observe the following word count requirements:
3.° essay - no more than 600 words
3.° short story - no more than 1000 words
3.° poem - no more than 25 lines
4. You are asked to submit no more than one entry
5. Each entry should be presented as text in electronic format and arrive together with a completed entry form at UA-Quartet@britishcouncil.org.ua no later than 30 April 2005.
Unfortunately, we will be unable to comment on the artistic merits of any of your works.
