The first twinning projects in Ukraine: a major benchmark in EU- Ukraine relations

    Ukrainian authorities launched, on the 18th May 2006, the first two twinning projects in a Tacis country. These two projects will support the harmonisation with EU norms of Ukrainian legislation and standards in the fields of Civil Aviation and Electricity Regulation. Furthermore, twinnings in the fields of Gas, Competition, Norms and Standards, Police, Transport, Space and Audit will be launched in the next months. This is an important step forward in the implementation of the ENP Action Plan, which had foreseen twinning as a key instrument to support Ukrainian legislative approximation to meet EU norms and standards. At the same time, it is a materialisation of Ukraine’s willingness to get closer to EU legislation and best practices.
