EU-funded project organized a workshop on student assessment in civic education

July 6, 2007.

organized a workshop in Kyiv focusing on student assessment in civic education and the skills and techniques teachers need, including recent developments in citizenship education in the UK and their possible application to the situation in Ukraine.
The workshop was led by the short-term International Expert for Teacher Development, Chris Waller. This is a follow-up to his workshops in Kyiv and Vinnytsa in February 2007 and to the workshop held by the short-term International Expert for Assessment. Participants were drawn from all four pilot oblasts and included rayon methodologists and pilot school teachers and participants from the previous workshops, as well as new participants. The main aims of the workshop were:
° To clarify issues relating to assessment and its importance for civic education
° To look at assessment for learning, as well as assessment of learning
° To look at student participation in assessment, including peer and self-assessment
° To look at experience and best practice in Ukraine
° To develop and discuss an assessment task
The workshop will contribute to teachers’ and methodologists understanding of assessment and how to assess civic education activities.
