EUROPEAN EXPERIENCE IN IMPLEMENTATION OF ADMINISTRATIVE AND TERRITORIAL REFORM IN UKRAINE

May 4, 2005.

    *** The international conference “Regional and local development in Ukraine: challenges and opportunities” will take place at the National Academy of Public Administration, the President of Ukraine (20 Eugene Pottier st., Kyiv) on 12-13 May 2005.
    The purpose of international conference is the discussion of the following issues:
    institutional environment of regional development in Ukraine: current status and prospects;
    new approaches and instruments of regional development in Ukraine;
    administrative and territorial reform and its influence on regional development;
    ways of increasing a potential of Ukrainian regions competitiveness with an objective of approaching to the EU
    application of standards and experience EU Members States in the field of regional development.
    The conference is organized by European Commission Project “Assistance to regional development in Ukraine”, Ministry of Economy of Ukraine and National Association of regional development agencies.
    High-level officials are invited to participate in the conference:
    R.Bezsmertny, the Vice Prime Minister of Ukraine on Territorial and Administrative Reform
    S. Romanyuk, Vice Minister of Economy of Ukraine
    Y.Klyuchkovskiy, Deputy Head of the Parliamentary Committee on State Building and Local Self-governance.
    It is expected that officials from self governments and representatives of NGOs from different regions of Ukraine will take part in the conference. International experts from France ,Germany and Poland will make presentations at the conference.
    The press-conference will take place on the 12 May 2005 at 12:30 to promote raising awareness on regional development in Ukraine.
