EU Integration Process from East to East

    http://stiinte.ulbsibiu.ro/sociologie of the "Lucian Blaga" http://www.ulbsibiu.ro/ University of Sibiu organizes a round table for young social scientist from CEE Region, under the joint Romanian-Latvian project called "EU Integration Process from EAST to EAST: Civil Society and Ethnic Minorities in a Changing World". This event is the first in series of two meetings (one in Romania and one in Latvia). The Research Institute for Quality of Life http://www.iccv.ro (Bucharest) and the Astra Museum (Sibiu) are among the co-organizers.
    
    
    
    
    
    
    The main purpose of the project is to design and institutionalize a network of young social scientists from the CEE region aiming to facilitate the politics of their countries and the European Union, conducive to civil society and ethnic integration. This initiative aim to help young researchers to play an active role within the civil society, the process of European integration and the policy design. Around 35 people from CEE region are expected to take part in every meeting. Another goal of the two meetings is to discuss the current social processes within the societies in the area and to identify common patterns as well as to share the experiences that young social scientist had in their activity.
    
    The event is organized as a workshop. 35 participants will be involved in three one-day sessions. 4-6 papers will be selected for presentation in each session, offering the background for the discussions. Social events are also scheduled.
    
    Colleagues wishing to participate are invited to submit electronically an ABSTRACT of 500 words approx. to the organizers, along with their detailed RESUME and their complete postal and electronic address. A short APPLICATION FORM should also be completed.     Deadline for submitting abstracts: the 20th of October 2004. Authors will be notified whether their abstract have been accepted for participation by October the 25th, 2004.
    
    Eligibility: The eligible candidates are citizens of the former communist countries from Central and Eastern Europe . The applicants are expected to be young (35 years old or less) social scientists practicing in the field of social science. Postgraduate students are highly encouraged to participate.
    
    English fluency is a must
    The organizers will support accommodation and meals. Travel might be subject for grants from the national OSF (Open Society Foundation) offices.
