Europe Day in Ukraine celebrates its 5th birthday!

    The Delegation of the European Commission to Ukraine and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine are pleased to announce that Europe Day 2007 in Kyiv will take place on the 2nd of June.
    In 2007 the Europe Day celebrations coincide with the 50th anniversary of the signature of the Treaty of Rome that laid the ground for the creation of today's European Union. Ukraine is celebrating Europe Day for the fifth consecutive year with festivities in Kyiv (2 June), Yalta (30 June) and in numerous other big cities of Ukraine.
    The event will feature 27 countries (EU Member States, Candidate Countries and Ukraine). The total number of tents represented in the European Village will rise to 50.
    Among them, due to popular demand, there will be two European Language Schools where visitors will be able to learn several useful phrases in one of the 23 official EU languages. A few dozen specialists from business, politics, music, sport, academia and other fields will take part in the European Union Public Discussion Forums. Another innovation of this year's Europe Day is that we will have two separate tents for public discussions. One of them will be solely dedicated to debates on economic issues.
    Also surely in the centre of attention will be this year's European mini football competition, dedicated to the victory of the joint Ukraine-Poland application for the EURO-2012. Around the tournament, a number of competitions and lotteries dedicated to football and sports in general will be organised.
    Europe Day is an urban event aimed at bringing the EU out onto the streets and squares. Last year, altogether 200,000 people attended the festivities in the capital, Zaporizhzha and Kharkiv.
    The Europe Day celebrations are organised by the Delegation of the European Commission to Ukraine, EU Member State embassies and cultural centres, the Government of Ukraine, the Kyiv city state administration and Yalta city state administration respectively.
