95,461 Ukrainians took advantage of the visa-free regime during the first month of its operation

July 12, 2017.

Within the first month of visa-free travel between Ukraine and the EU that came into effect on June 11, 95,461 Ukrainians took the opportunity to travel with biometric passports without visas.
More than a third of them travelled to European countries by airplane – 34 364 people. Maritime transport was chosen only by 15 visa-free travellers.
Most Ukrainians with biometric passports without visas crossed the land borders with EU countries – 61 082 people. 32,062 of them went to Poland; 13,600 Ukrainians entered Hungary; 9,758 Ukrainians crossed the border with Romania without a visa; 5,662 citizens of Ukraine went to Slovakia.
During the first 30 days of visa-free travel, 50 Ukrainians with biometric passports without visas were refused entry to EU countries, which is 0.001% of the total number of Ukrainian visa-free travellers. The main reasons for the refusal of entry for these citizens included their inability to substantiate their purpose of stay and previous violations of the EU migration law.
All in all, during the 30 days of visa-free travel, 1,875,647 Ukrainian citizens travelled to the EU. Of these, 434,074 people crossed the border with biometric passports with visas.
The visa-free regime with the EU for Ukrainian citizens came into force on June 11 this year. Now Ukrainians have an opportunity to travel with biometric passports without a visa to 30 European countries, including Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland.
The nation-wide communication campaign “Open Europe” on visa liberalization with the countries of the European Union was launched in Ukraine on May 11. The main information platform of the campaign is the website www.openeurope.in.ua. Its materials target the widest audience and are presented in a convenient form of questions and answers in plain and accessible language.
