November 10, 2017.

9 - 11 November 2017 – Berend De Groot, Head of Cooperation of the EU Delegation to Ukraine is on a three day working visit to Donbas. The visit provides an opportunity to meet the local communities and to further define their needs and EU's support, especially in regards to the soon to be adopted EU's new programme on support to the East of Ukraine. This E50 million EU programme focuses on improved access to finance for small businesses, vocational training, support to displaced universities, community security and social cohesion, and further support to the decentralisation and health reform. Mr De Groot is meeting the authorities of both Luhansk and Donetsk State Administrations.
Berend De Groot: "This visit is a good opportunity to work directly with beneficiary communities and institutions to understand the needs and define, together with the UN agencies, our new programme for the East of Ukraine." He added that: "EU is a major donor in the Eastern Ukraine, and support to the areas affected by the conflict in Eastern Ukraine remains an issue of high importance for the EU."
Mr De Groot participated in a workshop on vocational education and training with civil society representatives yesterday in Kramatorsk, after meeting the Chairman of Donetsk State Administration Mr Zhebrivsky.
Today a similar workshop took place in Severodonetsk, after a meeting with Mrs Lishyk, Deputy Chairwoman of Luhansk State Administration.
Mr De Groot will visit a roadbridge over Severskiydonets river, that was blown up by the combatants in 2014 – andrebuilt with the EU support, enabling people and goods to cross the river again. After visiting an EU-funded project on upgrading the sewage system and renovating dormitories for internally displaced persons in Kramatorsk, he will also visit an EU project improving access to water in Kreminna.
