EU welcomes the alignment of certain countries concerning restrictive measures in view of Russia’s aggression in Ukraine and illegal annexation of Crimea

August 16, 2019.

    The European Union issued Declarations by the High Representative on the alignment of certain countries concerning restrictive measures in view of Russia’s actions destabilising the situation in Ukraine and in response to illegal annexation of Sevastopol and Crimea. It took note of countries’ commitments and welcomed them.
    On 27 June 2019, the Council adopted Decision (CFSP) 2019/1108[1] amending Decision 2014/512/CFSP.
    The Council Decision extends the restrictive measures for a further period of 6 months, until 31 January 2020.
    The Candidate Countries Montenegro* and Albania*, the EFTA country Norway, member of the European Economic Area, as well as Ukraine align themselves with this decision.
    Also, on 20 June 2019, the Council adopted Decision 2019/1018[2] amending Decision 2014/386/CFSP.
    The Council extends the existing restrictive measures until 23 June 2020.
    The Candidate Countries Montenegro and Albania, the country of the Stabilisation and Association Process and potential candidate Bosnia and Herzegovina, and the EFTA country Norway, member of the European Economic Area, as well as Ukraine and Georgia align themselves with this decision.
    These countries will ensure that their national policies conform to these Council Decisions.
