*** A press-conference on the Delegation’s project “EU Information Days for secondary schools in rural areas” will take place on Wednesday, 15 April 2004, at 11:30 in the premises of the Delegation of the European Commission to Ukraine (vul. Kruglounversitetska, 10).
In January 2005 the Delegation of the European Commission to Ukraine, Moldova and Belarus started a nation-wide initiative for holding EU Information Days in secondary schools in Ukraine’s rural areas. This project is part of annual information programme of the Delegation of the European Commission to Ukraine which aims at disseminating knowledge and information about the European Union among the population of Ukraine.
The objective of the initiative is to organise and hold information events to increase the level of awareness and knowledge about the EU, European values, the perspectives of EU-Ukraine co-operation, EU policy towards Ukraine among the youth in the rural regions of Ukraine. This is the first time that the Commission chose schoolchildren of the following eight Ukrainian oblasts as a target group: Dnipropetrovsk, Donetsk, Poltava, Kyiv, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Ternopil, Ivano-Frankivsk. About 300 rural schools of the mentioned oblasts expressed their willingness to participate in the initiative.
The practical implementation of the initiative foresees the organisation of information activities through presentations, open classes “The EU is…”, contests, drawing and essay competitions, an EU Dance Festival as well as an EU Cuisine Festival.
The information events will take place in April-May 2005 and will be devoted to the Europe Day celebration in Ukraine.
