Siim Kallas, Vice President of the European Commission visits Kyiv to discuss administrative and judicial reforms with Ukraine’s leadership

*** European Commissioner Siim Kallas, Vice President of the European Commission visits Kyiv from 26-28 June. Commissioner Kallas’ portfolio includes Administrative affairs, Audit and Anti-Fraud. During his stay in Kyiv he will discuss these issues with President V. Yushchenko, Prime Minister Y. Tymoshenko, Deputy Prime Minister R. Bezsmertnyi, Deputy Prime Minister O. Rybachuk, and Secretary of the Council for National Security and Defence P Poroshenko, Minister of Interior Y. Lutsenko and Minister of Justice R. Zvarych.
The EU-Ukraine Action Plan foresees as priority for action further strengthening the stability and effectiveness of institutions guaranteeing democracy and law including reforms of the judicial system and the fight against corruption.

Born: October 2, 1948; Tallinn, Estonia
Mr Siim Kallas has been an active participant in the restoration of Estonian statehood and has served in Estonia as Prime Minister, Minister of Finance, Minister of Foreign Affairs and President of the Central Bank. He has been elected to the Estonian Parliame! nt three times. He also held the position of the Chairman of the Estonian Reform Party since the party’s creation in 1994 until November 2004, after which he became the Honorary Chairman of the party. Since November 2004, Mr Kallas is a Vice-President of the European Commission in charge of Administration, Audit and Anti-fraud.
