UN: 2025 Became the Deadliest Year for Civilians in Ukraine Since 2022

    The United Nations Human Rights Monitoring Mission reported that 2025 was the deadliest year for civilians in Ukraine since the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion. According to UN data, 2,514 civilians were confirmed killed and 12,142 injured during the year.
    
    This represents a 31% increase compared to 2024 and a 70% increase compared to 2023.
    
    The primary reason for the rise in casualties was Russia’s extensive use of long-range missiles, attack drones, and wide-area explosive weapons against Ukrainian cities, energy infrastructure, transportation networks, and frontline communities.
    
    For the human rights community, these figures demonstrate not isolated incidents but a systemic trend showing that civilians remain a primary target of Russia’s military strategy.
